"As with last year, we (the Telegraph) have been inviting public nominations for those who have achieved such success in a particularly "British" way during the past year.
Nominations can be made across seven categories: Arts, Business, Campaigning, Creative Industries, Public Life (formerly Public Service), Science and Innovation and Sport.
Expert judges will draw up shortlists in the categories relating to their particular fields in November. The final judging panel will then decide category winners and announce them at the awards dinner on Jan 26, 2006 at the Guildhall in London.
The Morgan Stanley Great Briton of 2005 will be put to a public vote on that night.
Last year, Sir Tim Berners-Lee, the man who invented the World Wide Web, was named Great Briton of 2004."
